b'T orranceM emorialtheS tarLast year we felt like Sisyphus, never getting that boulder to the top of the COVID hill . But then the cavalry arrived in the form of a vaccination and weboth patients and staffwere all breathing a little easier, though were still not quite at the hilltop . The pandemic has been a huge challenge, and Im excited to say our Torrance Memorial Medical Center more than met it . Its still maintaining its clinical excellence as evidenced by the continued national awards it has garnered . U.S. News & World Report ranked Torrance Memorial 11th in the state and 5th in LA Metro in their Best Hospitals 2021-22 listing, and Newsweek ranked us #1 in the South Bay and the top 1% in the entire nation . We also Mark Lurie, M .D . received the prestigious Magnet redesignation for our nursing department . And, to brag a little more, the Lundquist Lurie Cardiovascular Institute received the highest Gold Plus Award in heart failure treatment from the American Heart Association .That last award was due not only to our dedicated and talented staff, but also the fact that all funds raised this year were directed to the Institutefor which we are profoundly grateful . Much of the recognition Torrance Memorial received goes to you, our friends & neighbors, and the tremendous support youve given to the hospital through generous donations, food, helping hands and moral support . Hopefully someday soon well be standing at the top of the hill savoring the view of a healthy community . Thanks so much .Mark Lurie, MDPresident, Torrance Memorial Foundation BoardMedical Director, Lundquist Lurie Cardiovascular Institute4 - 2021 Holiday Festival'
